At Herschel Grammar school, the safety and well-being of all pupils is of the utmost importance.
All schools have a special responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. This means we should notice if you are being treated badly, listen to you if you want to talk to us about a problem and take advice from other professionals if you need extra help.
Young people are nearly always safe at home, at school and in the community, but sometimes things can happen to make them worried, upset or afraid.
When young people are hurt in some way by an adult or an older young person this might be what is called child abuse.
If we think a pupil has been harmed or is at risk of being harmed, we have a set of rules we follow to help to protect you. These rules are called safeguarding procedures and a copy of our safeguarding policy is available at the bottom of this page.
Share concerns
If you are ever concerned about your safety or well-being or about the safety of another pupil, you should talk to someone.
The Safeguarding Team all wear GREEN lanyards to be easily identified.

Help from other teachers
If you have a problem at school or at home and you don't wish to go to a member of the safeguarding team listed above, you can of course talk to any teacher you trust, but your form tutor or Head of Learning is always a good port of call. Sometimes they will be able to help you themselves and sometimes they will refer you to someone else who can - maybe the School Nurse, the Educational Mental Health Practitioners, the School Counsellor or someone else.
Don’t forget to also check your Safeguarding channel on Teams for further support.
Click on the New safeguarding and Wellbeing reporting tool below to make a report about any aspect of your own safety or wellbeing, or about the safety or wellbeing of others. This could include, but is not limited to online safety, bullying, a wellbeing/mental health concern. Please note that any reports made here are NOT anonymous. This information may need to be shared with external agencies and there may be occasions that we may need to share concerns with parents. By completing this form, you are agreeing to those terms.
Please also note that these reports are not continuously monitored. If your situation is urgent and you feel at immediate risk, please contact the police or call Childline on 0800 11 11
